Dr. Russell Johns

Biography

Russell Johns is a Professor in Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University and a member of the National Academy of Engineering. He has an extensive academic background, having earned a Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering from Stanford University in 1992, an M.S. in Petroleum Engineering from Stanford University in 1989, and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University in 1982. His research interests include enhanced oil recovery, focusing on both conventional and unconventional reservoirs, miscible gas flooding, and chemical flooding. Additionally, he studies low salinity water flooding, thermodynamics, phase behavior testing, and geothermal energy. Dr. Johns has received numerous awards for his contributions to the field, including the Anthony F. Lucas Gold Medal from AIME in 2023 and the IOR Pioneer Award from the Society of Petroleum Engineers in 2022. He served as the Editor-in-Chief for the Society Petroleum Engineering Journals from 2018 to 2020 and is recognized as a Distinguished Member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and an Honorary Member. Through his work, he has significantly advanced the field of petroleum engineering and has been involved in numerous impactful projects and research initiatives.
