Biography

Dr. Russell E. Lucas is a professor in the fields of International Relations and Global Studies at James Madison College, part of Michigan State University. He earned his Ph.D. in Government from Georgetown University in 2000, and has a Master's degree in Modern Middle Eastern and North African Studies from the University of Michigan, obtained in 1994. His undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, was also awarded by the University of Michigan in 1992. Dr. Lucas specializes in Middle Eastern politics and culture, with a focus on foreign policy, public opinion, political institutions, and media. He has published a significant book titled 'Institutions Politics Survival Jordan: Domestic Responses External Challenges, 1988-2001' through SUNY Press, and his research has appeared in prestigious journals such as the Journal of Democracy and International Studies Quarterly. His current research investigates conceptions of public opinion in the Arab World, particularly pertaining to the politics of Arab monarchies. Before joining Michigan State University, he held teaching positions at Florida International University and the University of Oklahoma.
