Biography

Dr. Mersereau grew up in the Northeast and attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as both an undergraduate and graduate student, where he received S.B. and S.M. degrees in 1969 and a Sc.D. in 1973. He remained at MIT as a Research Associate until 1975, when he joined the faculty of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Tech. At Georgia Tech, Dr. Mersereau played a prominent role in establishing the Digital Signal Processing Group, which is recognized globally. He is an international leader in two-dimensional signal processing, with contributions to teaching and research that are widely acknowledged. His research interests include modeling, coding, computerized images and video, digital signal processing communications, acoustic arrays, echo removal, object tracking, and pattern recognition.
