Biography

Professor Russell Minns graduated with a first-class degree in Chemistry from Kings College London in 2001. He worked with Professor Helen Fielding on Rydberg molecules to obtain his PhD in 2005. After completing postdoctoral positions at the University of Virginia and University College London, he was awarded a Ramsay Memorial Fellowship in 2009. In 2011, he joined the University of Southampton to begin a Royal Society University Research Fellowship. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2019 and became a Professor in 2023. His research focuses on the use of femtosecond laser sources for the study of photochemistry in molecules upon reacting with absorbed ultraviolet light, allowing for the real-time monitoring of chemical reactions and the arrangements of electrons and nuclei. He employs an array of techniques to cover energy ranges from infrared to X-ray, with particular emphasis on high harmonic generation sources for extreme ultraviolet light and photoelectron spectroscopy measurements.
