Dr. Russell Taylor

Biography

Russell H. Taylor is a John C. Malone Professor at Johns Hopkins University's Whiting School of Engineering, with a primary appointment in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and secondary appointments in the Department of Computer Science and the School of Medicine, including departments for Otolaryngology—Head Neck Surgery, Radiology, and Surgery. With over 50 years of experience in fields encompassing computer science, robotics, and computer-integrated interventional medicine, he is recognized as an international leader in medical robotics and autonomous systems. Taylor has served as the director of the Laboratory for Computational Sensing and Robotics, a key player in advancing robotics research. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for his contributions to programmable sensor-based robot systems and is an elected member of the National Academy of Engineering. His research interests focus on areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics, human-machine cooperative systems, medical imaging modeling, and computer-integrated interventions. Taylor has received numerous accolades, including multiple IBM Outstanding Achievement Awards and the IEEE Pioneer Robotics Automation Award. He obtained his BSE from Johns Hopkins University in 1970 and his PhD in computer science from Stanford University in 1976.
