Biography

Ruth Barclay is a professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at the College of Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Manitoba. With extensive clinical experience as a physiotherapist, Ruth specializes in stroke rehabilitation. She has presented her research internationally at conferences focusing on quality of life, aging, and physiotherapy. Ruth earned her PhD in community health sciences from the University of Manitoba in 2008, her Master of Health Sciences from McMaster University in 1995, and her Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation in physical therapy from the University of Manitoba in 1987. Her research examines health-related quality of life, community ambulation, and participation in stroke recovery for aging populations. Additionally, she investigates response shift in health-related quality of life and the implications of winter walking, particularly in colder climates. Ruth is the Riverview Health Centre Chair in Telerehabilitation and has been involved in research on telerehabilitation-based multi-site randomized controlled trials. Her work has contributed to developing better rehabilitation strategies, enhancing mobility, and promoting independence among aging individuals recovering from stroke. Ruth is affiliated with multiple research organizations, including the CanStroke Recovery Trials platform and the International Society for Quality of Life Research.
