Dr. Ruth Belay

Biography

Dr. Belay is a fellowship-trained urologic oncologist at Stanford Health Care's Urologic Cancer Program. She specializes in diagnosing and treating disorders of the urinary tract, focusing on conditions such as kidney cancer, enlarged prostate, and ureteral stones. Her expertise includes various imaging treatment modalities, including cystoscopy, endourology, laparoscopy, laser therapy, ultrasound, urodynamic testing, and robotic surgery. Dr. Belay collaborates closely with patients to develop comprehensive evaluation and care plans. Her research interests encompass pain control, robot-assisted prostatectomy, and the effects of caffeine on overactive bladder symptoms in postmenopausal women. She is actively involved in quality improvement initiatives at Stanford Medicine and is committed to sharing her knowledge in urology with medical students by teaching and mentoring residents and post-doctoral fellows. Her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Urology Practice and the Journal of Endourology, and she has presented her work at various national and international conferences, including those of the American Urological Association and the Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine & Urogenital Reconstruction.
