Dr. Ruth Chang

Biography

Ruth Chang is a leading scholar in the field of Philosophy, specializing in Practical Reason and Practical Ethics. She is currently a Professor of Jurisprudence and a Professorial Fellow at University College, University of Oxford. Ruth has a distinguished academic background with a D.Phil. from the University of Oxford, a J.D. from Harvard Law School, and an A.B. from Dartmouth College. Her research interests include the nature of normativity, the structure of values and reasons, agency, rationality, population ethics, as well as themes of love, commitment, and decision-making. Ruth's work has garnered attention across various media outlets in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Taiwan, Australia, and other countries. She has also provided consultancy for industries such as video gaming, pharmaceuticals, and banking finance. In addition to her research, Ruth actively teaches seminars for graduate students in philosophy, law, and politics, supervising DPhil students on a range of subjects.
