Biography

Professor Ruth Ganss is the inaugural Woodside Cancer Research Fellow and head of the Cancer Microenvironment Laboratory at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. She obtained her PhD from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, in 1994, and has since served as a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Prof. Douglas Hanahan at the University of California, San Francisco, where she gained extensive knowledge in analyzing preclinical mouse models, particularly focusing on tumor stroma. From 1997 to 2006, she worked at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg, concentrating on the vascular aspects of tumor immunity. In 2006, she accepted a professorial appointment at the University of Western Australia and began her research at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. Her work integrates cancer, immunology, and vascular biology, demonstrating over 20 years of expertise in studying the tumor microenvironment through transgenic orthotopic tumor models. Her current research focuses on the translational anti-cancer aspects of stromal remodeling and immunotherapy, and she has been involved in key projects that address these innovations.
