Dr. Ruth Lamont

Biography

Ruth Lamont is a Professor of Law specializing in Justice Policy at the University of Manchester. She is currently the UKRI Thematic Research Lead for Crime Justice, which includes collaboration with research information teams in Parliament and working with Select Committees. Her research is focused on family law, particularly children's rights and welfare. Ruth's PhD involved the examination of EU law and international child abduction, and she has extensively researched the impacts of European and international law on cross-border family life. In 2016, she provided testimony to the House of Commons Justice Select Committee regarding the impact of Brexit on family law. Ruth is a trustee for the charity GlobalARRK, which assists parents in cross-border child disputes. She has received funding to investigate the historical emigration of children from North-West England to Canada and completed work on convict families in Australia. Ruth has contributed to significant discussions about the development of the law concerning victims and has published extensively in her field, including serving as editor for the Child Family Law Quarterly and a textbook on Family Law. She teaches modules related to Family Law and Property Law at the university and has acted as a Research Impact Officer in the Law department.
