Biography

Ruth Ledder is a senior lecturer in the Microbiology Research Group at the University of Manchester, where she has been a faculty member since 1999. Her academic journey began with a part-time undergraduate degree in Microbiology, which she completed while working as a research technician focusing on industrially funded projects related to bacterial biofilms. She transitioned to a full-time postgraduate researcher in 2003 and secured an academic position in 2008 after completing her Ph.D. Her research primarily revolves around the ecology, physiology, and pathogenicity of bacteria associated with human oral health and disease. Additionally, Ruth leads the MPharm program and is passionate about innovative teaching methods to enhance student learning experiences. She is involved in various undergraduate courses and health promotion public engagement initiatives. Ruth is an active member of several professional bodies, including the American Society for Microbiology and the General Microbiology Society. She is also committed to promoting STEM education, particularly among young girls in primary schools, and serves as a co-opted school governor at Norris Bank Primary School in Stockport.
