Biography

Ruth Pearce is a Senior Lecturer in Community Development at the University of Glasgow's School of Education. Her work explores issues of inequality, marginalisation, and power through an interdisciplinary trans feminist perspective. She joined the School of Education in July 2021, having worked in various roles across the voluntary sector and academia. Her PhD, awarded by the University of Warwick in 2016, examined trans health within the contexts of trans communities and activist groups. She is a co-editor of the Community Development Journal and engages in several editorial boards, contributing to leading journals in her field. Pearce's research interests focus on empowering marginalized communities to transform social, educational, and political institutions. Her notable projects include BLA-HAJ, an ESRC-funded international study on trans youth healthcare, and the Trans Learning Partnership, a series of participatory research initiatives supporting trans communities. She is also committed to teaching and supervising students at the graduate level in areas related to community development and applied transgender studies.
