Biography

Ruth Pelzer-Montada is an artist scholar with a particular interest in print media. She holds a PhD in art practice and a BA (hons) in Painting from the Edinburgh College of Art, along with undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in German Literature and Political Science from the University of Heidelberg. Ruth teaches Visual Culture and historical critical studies at the Edinburgh College of Art, where she also oversees undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Her teaching spans a wide range of art and design-related subjects, specializing in the history and theory of photography and postmodern, postcolonial identity theories in art. Ruth's research focuses on the intersection of art practice and visual culture, examining the critical theoretical concerns that inform her artistic work. She is a member of the Material/Technê/Materialisms research cluster at the School of Art. Throughout her career, Ruth has contributed to numerous international conferences and peer-reviewed publications, including critical essays in renowned journals. Her writing has appeared in anthologies such as 'Perspectives on Contemporary Printmaking,' published by Manchester University Press. Additionally, she has served as an external examiner for print media at the Royal College of Art in London and has acted as an external examiner for printmaking at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin. Ruth was also an elected member of the Council of the Scottish Society of Artists from 2004 to 2007.
