Dr. Ruth Wehlau

Biography

Ruth Wehlau teaches a broad spectrum of courses on English literature at Queen's University, focusing particularly on medieval literature. Her courses include topics such as Arthurian legend and the history of the English language. Wehlau has a keen interest in medieval drama and romance, often involving oral culture from the Middle Ages and the role of festivals and performance in literature. Her research also explores medievalism, particularly the reception of the Middle Ages and medieval literature in later periods, including the 18th century and modern fantasy fiction. Wehlau has been studying Irish Gaelic and has taught introductory courses on the language to both Queen's students and members of the Kingston community. Recent research projects examine the intersection of masculinity and female sexual desire in Sir Thomas Malory’s Morte d'Arthur.
