Dr. Ruud Nijman

Biography

Ruud Nijman is an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London with a special interest in diagnostics, clinical decision making, pediatric emergency medicine, and infectious diseases. He serves as the Deputy Theme lead at the Centre of Paediatrics and Child Health and works as a consultant in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at St. Mary's Hospital, part of the Imperial College NHS Healthcare Trust. Dr. Nijman has a strong focus on the recognition and management of children at risk for serious bacterial infections presenting to the emergency department, including the development and validation of clinical prediction models. He has been actively involved in research using large-scale linked health data to understand childhood infections across North West London and Europe. He is also a principal investigator in various multinational studies during the COVID-19 pandemic and advocates for refugee children's health and wellbeing. Ruud teaches pediatric emergency medicine and has authored children's books aimed at educating young patients about their health. He completed his PhD in Pediatrics at Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2014 and holds an MSc in Clinical Epidemiology.
