Biography

Ruud van Ommen is a full professor and section leader in the Product & Process Engineering section at the Department of Chemical Engineering at Delft University of Technology. He obtained his MSc degree in Chemical Engineering in 1996 and his PhD in 2001 from the same university. His research focuses on multiphase reactors and particle technology, with a particular interest in the scalable production of advanced nanostructured materials. Since 2011, he has led a research program funded by an ERC Starting Grant, investigating the interplay of agglomeration and coating of nanoparticles in the gas phase. His fundamental work has resulted in practical applications in energy conversion and storage, as well as pharmaceutical production. Van Ommen is also actively involved in the e-Refinery institute and has experience as a visiting professor at Chalmers University in Sweden and the University of Colorado in Boulder, USA. He is a co-founder of Delft IMP, now known as Powall, a spin-off company from his research group.
