Biography

Ruud Wouters is a political sociologist whose research interests focus on social political change. He specifically studies how social movements succeed or fail in achieving their desired outcomes, including the mobilization of protest participants, garnering media attention, shaping public opinion support, and influencing policy change. After defending his PhD in 2013, Wouters worked as a postdoctoral researcher at FWO Flanders from 2014 to 2017 and held a visiting scholar position at Stanford University during the 2015-2016 academic year. He has also worked at the University of Amsterdam from 2017 to 2019 and was involved in the 'Civil Society Innovation Flanders' project in 2019 as a senior researcher within the Media, Movements & Politics research group at the University of Antwerp. Wouters' current research project, PROVOKE, examines the responsiveness of politicians to street protests.
