Dr. Ruwan Silva

Biography

Ruwan Amila Silva, MD, MPhil is a board certified fellowship trained vitreoretinal surgeon at Stanford University Medical Center's Department of Ophthalmology. He graduated Magna cum laude with a BA in Neurobiology from Harvard University and earned his MPhil in Neurobiology from Cambridge University. Dr. Silva obtained his medical degree from Stanford University’s School of Medicine and completed his residency at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. He has received esteemed accolades such as the Heed Fellowship and the Ronald G. Michels Foundation Award, which is regarded as the highest honor for retina surgery fellows in the nation. His clinical practice predominantly addresses macular degeneration and retinal vascular diseases, while he specializes in various surgeries associated with the vitreous and retina. Dr. Silva's research interests are centered on developing novel therapies and he has authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts, showcasing his significant contributions to the field. He is a member of prominent associations including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists, highlighting his active involvement in the ophthalmology community.
