Ruxandra is a registered architect and urbanist specializing in the historic environment. She teaches and undertakes professional training consultancy work within the Scottish Centre for Conservation Studies. She graduated from Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urbanism in Bucharest and later studied Medieval Studies at the Central European University while pursuing her PhD at the University of Edinburgh, focusing on 'Ideology of Urban Conservation.' Ruxandra has experience as an inspector of historical monuments at the Romanian Ministry of Culture, and has served as a consultant for the Heritage Settlements Unit and ICCROM (International Centre for the Study of Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property) in Rome. She has contributed to various international projects with Europa Nostra, ICCROM, and UNESCO that address technical aspects and the management of cultural landscapes. Additionally, Ruxandra is the coordinator of the Edinburgh Cast Collection project which received a £0.5 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and has served as an editor for the Edinburgh Architecture Research journal. She is an expert member of the International Scientific Committee on the Theory and Philosophy of ICOMOS and a co-founding member of the Schools of Architecture World Heritage Sites network.
