Dr. Ruzana Liburkina

Biography

Ruzana Liburkina is a Junior Professor of Empirical Cultural Science at Universität Hamburg. Her research focuses on human-environment interactions, science and technology studies, economic anthropology, work cultures, and practices and praxeographies. She has been involved in significant projects, including the ERC-funded CRYOSOCIETIES, exploring the implications of cryopreservation practices. Liburkina earned her doctorate at Humboldt University of Berlin, where she also worked as a research assistant focusing on social anthropology and science and technology studies. She has authored and edited multiple books and articles, contributing to the discourse on responsibility in the context of modern biotechnologies and environmental issues, gaining attention for her insights into the societal implications of scientific advancements. Through her publications, she emphasizes the dynamic relationships between culture, technology, and the environment, striving to address complex challenges in contemporary society. Her academic journey has also included roles at Goethe University Frankfurt and extensive engagement with interdisciplinary collaborations within anthropology and environmental studies.
