Biography

Ryan Baldridge is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Chemistry at the University of Michigan Medical School. He graduated with BS degrees in Biological Sciences and Chemistry from Northern Kentucky University in 2007 and earned his PhD in 2013 from Vanderbilt University. His research training includes studying the mechanics of phospholipid flippases and postdoctoral work at Harvard Medical School focusing on the endoplasmic reticulum associated degradation (ERAD) system. Baldridge's lab, established at the University of Michigan in 2017, investigates the basic mechanisms of protein quality control systems at cellular membranes, particularly how these systems regulate substrate selection and cellular pathways associated with various diseases such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and certain cancers. He has contributed significantly to the field through publications that delve into the interactions and mechanisms of integral membrane proteins and their role in cellular quality control processes.
