Biography

Ryan Bishop is a Professor of Global Art Politics at the University of Southampton, where he also holds the position of Head of Research for the Department of Art and Media Technology and Faculty Director of Graduate Studies for Arts and Humanities. With a deep engagement in critical theory, technology, and media studies, he co-edits the book series "Technicities" with Jussi Parikka and "A Cultural Politics Book" with Mark Featherstone and Eva Giraud at Duke University Press. He serves on the editorial board of the journal Cultural Politics and has contributed significantly to the Theory Culture Society editorial board. His current research interests encompass critical military studies, image politics, urban studies, and the intersection of aesthetics and technology. Notably, he has been involved in the AHRC-DFG project "Weather Report: Wind Model, Media Experience" alongside Professor Birgit Schneider and Professor Jussi Parikka. Previously, he has engaged in significant academic positions and projects, including those at the National University of Singapore and the Winchester School of Art.
