Biography

Ryan Broll is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Guelph. His teaching and supervision cover the Criminal Justice Public Policy (CJPP) undergraduate and graduate programs. His research is primarily focused on the well-being of children and youth, particularly in relation to bullying and cyberbullying. He employs a strengths-based approach that addresses individual, social, and cultural factors which promote resilience in the aftermath of bullying and cyberbullying. Broll investigates the correlates and consequences of involvement in bullying, as well as adult responses to bullying behaviors. His additional research interests include social control within marginalized and vulnerable populations, such as policing individuals experiencing homelessness and youth, as well as exploring cybercrime and the dynamics of dark fandoms. He is open to inquiries from prospective graduate students interested in these or related topics.
