Biography

Ryan is an Early-Career Researcher working at the Translational Cancer Pathology Laboratory (TCPL) at the University of Western Australia. His current focus is on detecting high-risk chromosomal abnormalities in patients with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). Ryan completed his PhD on the dysregulation of megakaryopoiesis, which is implicated in the progression of myelofibrosis and other myeloproliferative disorders. He is involved in mentoring honours and PhD students at TCPL, teaching experimental techniques, and assisting with data analysis to improve the understanding of myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) disease biology. Ryan's research utilizes cutting-edge genetic technologies to investigate DNA changes that affect the biology and function of megakaryocytes and contribute to aggressive cancer behavior. His findings have been translated into clinical practice for identifying disease markers, leading to the development of targeted therapies. Ryan is also working on developing an imaging flow cytometric method called immuno-flowFISH to detect chromosomal abnormalities in individual cells. His teaching contributions include various courses related to cancer pathology and medical sciences.
