Biography

Ryan Creedon is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Mathematics at Brown University. He earned his Ph.D. in 2022 and was previously an Acting Instructor in the same department at the University of Washington. His research focuses on nonlinear waves in geophysical fluids, with a particular emphasis on water wave instabilities. Ryan employs a combination of numerical and asymptotic methods alongside rigorous techniques in functional analysis, pattern formation, and dynamical systems to investigate instabilities. He has a strong interest in the applications of hydrodynamic instabilities to air-sea interaction and the potential role of the atmosphere-ocean coupled climate system. In addition to his research pursuits, Ryan is passionate about teaching and has been recognized with the Boeing Award for Teaching at the University of Washington in 2020, 2021, and 2023. He also holds an NSF Mathematical Sciences Postdoctoral Fellowship for the year 2024.
