Dr. Ryan Edwards

Biography

Ryan Edwards is a deputy director at the Development Policy Centre within the Crawford School of Public Policy at the Australian National University. He leads the Australian Government's Pacific Research program and serves as the thematic research lead for the migration consortium. His research focuses on the intersections of labour economics, international trade, and environmental issues, engaging primarily in applied empirical work across Indonesia, Australia, and the Pacific region. Edwards is an associate editor for Asia Pacific Policy Studies and Asia-Pacific Economic Literature and has authored many discussion papers for the Development Policy Centre. Previously, he held academic positions at Dartmouth College and Stanford University, focusing on development economics and environmental sustainability. Edwards' doctoral studies at ANU involved collaborations with the Australian Government in budgetary evaluations and impact assessments. He has also been associated with the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab at MIT, contributing to policy evaluations through randomized field experiments. Actively involved in graduate research supervision, he convenes key economics courses while also coordinating the biennial Pacific Update seminar in Suva, Fiji.
