Biography

Ryan Grant is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Queen's University and a leading expert in secure supercomputing and AI Exascale infrastructure. He advocates for government investment to ensure industry and researchers can access affordable, cutting-edge infrastructure to position Canada as a global leader in medicine, artificial intelligence, and climate science research. His research interests include cloud computing, high-performance networks, low-level hardware-software interfaces, message passing, and power management for extreme-scale systems. He is the head of the Computing Extreme Scale Advanced Research (CAESAR) lab, which is the largest supercomputing architecture lab in the world. Prior to joining Queen's in 2021, he worked at Sandia National Laboratories, where he led a team that developed critical software specifications for networking hardware used in some of the world’s most powerful supercomputers. Dr. Grant has published over 80 peer-reviewed articles related to system software and has received numerous accolades for his work, including the R&D100 Award and the Public Good Innovator Award. He actively contributes to technical specifications councils and various journals and conferences in his field.
