Biography

Ryan S. Gray is an Associate Professor at Dell Medical School, The University of Texas at Austin, where he focuses on pediatric musculoskeletal diseases, particularly scoliosis. He oversees a basic research lab that employs mouse and zebrafish model systems along with modern molecular genetics and imaging approaches to study the pathogenesis of musculoskeletal diseases. His research primarily investigates adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, a complex spinal curvature that occurs in otherwise healthy adolescents. Dr. Gray received his Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from The University of Texas at Austin and completed his postdoctoral training at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He has received numerous grants to support his work on scoliosis and utilizes a multitiered approach in his Gray Lab, combining various models to inform diagnosis and provide therapeutic intervention pathways for musculoskeletal disorders in humans. His professional affiliations include the International Consortium on Spine Genetics, Development & Disease Planning Committee and the Society for Developmental Biology.
