Dr. Ryan Humphrey

Biography

Ryan Humphrey is a Lecturer in Arts Management and Cultural Policy at the University of Manchester. He holds a PhD in Community Music and Cultural Policy from York St John University, where he also completed his MA in Community Music Research. Ryan has a BA (Hons) in Community Music from the University of Sunderland. He previously held academic positions at the University of Aberdeen and the University of Edinburgh, where he contributed to the development of the Scottish Cultural Policy Research Network. Apart from his academic work, Ryan has experience as a community musician and arts program manager in North East England, focusing on delivering music programs to children and young people in care. His research investigates the relationship between community music and cultural policy, specifically how policy shapes funding mechanisms for community arts and socially engaged programs. He is particularly interested in issues surrounding the cultural value and the community's role in arts practices within the context of 21st-century policy influence.
