Biography

Dr. Ryan (Yunwei) Li is a Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alberta. He has made significant contributions to the field of power electronics, energy systems, and smart grids. He earned his Bachelor degree from Tianjin University, China in 2002, and his PhD from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore in 2006. Between 2005 and 2007, he worked as a visiting scholar and postdoctoral research fellow, respectively. Dr. Li joined the University of Alberta in 2007 after working as an R&D Engineer at Rockwell Automation Canada. He has served in various leadership roles, including Vice President Products for the IEEE Power Electronics Society and Editor-in-Chief for the IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics Letters from 2019 to 2023. Dr. Li has been recognized as a Fellow of the IEEE and the Canadian Academy of Engineering, and he is a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher. His research interests focus on grid integration of renewable energy systems, microgrid control, and high power converters.
