Ryan Sharpe serves as the SIMS Lab Manager in the Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Manitoba. He obtained his B.Sc. with honors and M.Sc. in Geological Sciences from the same university in 2010 and 2013, respectively. His primary research interest lies in operating and maintaining the CAMECA 7f Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometer (SIMS), which is one of four such instruments available across academic institutes in Canada. This technique provides access to the entire periodic table (from Hydrogen to Uranium) at low detection limits (parts per million to parts per billion) and operates under high spatial resolution, typically between 10 to 30 microns. His lab specializes in a diverse range of techniques related to stable and radiogenic isotopes and trace elements. The scope of research conducted at the University of Manitoba encompasses studies on uranium deposits, ore fluids, transition metal isotopes, material sciences, archaeology, and gemstones. Alongside his lab responsibilities, he is also involved with the Faculty’s Local Area Safety Health (LASH) committee and serves as the Chief Fire Warden for the Wallace building.
