Biography

Ryan Swaryandana, known as Putu Swaryandana Ichi Oka, is a sessional lecturer in the School of Music. He grew up in Tabanan and studied Balinese gamelan music in Ubud, Bali. He earned his Bachelor's degree in 2019 and a Master’s degree in 2022 from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts, Denpasar. Ryan is a member of Cudamani, a renowned performing arts group based in Pengosekan, Ubud. As a Balinese musician, teacher, and composer, he has actively taught and composed music on the island and toured abroad with his compositions, including works like “Legong Swatika” during the Cudamani East Coast tour in 2021 and “Anglelana Lamuk” at the Bali Arts Festival in 2022. He has received UBC's 2022/2023 Andrew Fellowship in Creative Performing Arts, recognizing his contributions to gamelan music and dance.
