Biography

Ryan Walker studied automotive engineering at the University of Leeds, graduating in 2007. After spending a brief period as a freelance motorsport engineer, he worked with teams in various racing series including Formula 4, Formula 3, the World Endurance Championship, and British Touring Cars. He returned to academia to pursue a PhD in aeronautical engineering, which he completed in 2013 at Cranfield University, where he focused on rotordynamic faults and condition monitoring related to Rolls Royce. From 2013 to 2022, Walker was a part of the Mercedes AMG Formula 1 team, contributing to their record of eight consecutive world constructors’ championships. In his current role as a Departmental Lecturer at the University of Oxford, he leads the Oxford University Formula Student team and is engaged in researching automotive systems, advanced thermofluids, and condition monitoring techniques. He is open to supervising prospective DPhil students with interests in thermofluids and motorsport.
