Biography

Ryann Manning is an Assistant Professor of Organizational Behaviour at the Rotman School, University of Toronto. He received his PhD in Organizational Behavior from Harvard University. His research employs in-depth fieldwork to investigate the culture, emotion, and morality within organizational life. He focuses on understanding how organizations fulfill social missions and address societal needs while navigating challenges associated with acute ongoing crises. His recent projects examine the organizing of volunteers during the 2014-2015 Ebola crisis in West Africa and the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, as well as the crisis in Afghanistan starting in 2021. With experience as a manager, global health practitioner, and social entrepreneur, he has a specific interest in healthcare organizations, public sector organizations, and entities in the developing world.
