Dr. Ryke Longest

Biography

Ryke Longest is a John H. Adams Clinical Professor at Duke University School of Law, where he primarily practices and teaches environmental administrative law. With experience in both private practice and government service, Professor Longest brings a unique perspective to his role, particularly through his co-direction of the Duke Environmental Law and Policy Clinic. This initiative allows law students and graduate students from environmental disciplines to collaborate with non-profit organizations and individual clients to address pressing environmental concerns. The clinic has a robust record of helping students connect with real clients, assisting them in navigating issues like reducing carbon emissions, water and air resource protection, and tackling environmental justice challenges. Longest's research interests include environmental justice, resource allocation, and professional ethics. He has served in various leadership roles within the Duke School of Law and was appointed Director of Clinical Programs for the school from 2021 to 2025. In 2023, he received the title of John H. Adams Clinical Professor of Law, reflecting his influence and contributions in both legal education and environmental advocacy.
