Biography

Ryo Suzuki is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Calgary, specializing in the intersection of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and robotics. His research focuses on the design and development of novel tangible user interfaces, as well as interactive swarm soft robots. Ryo completed his PhD in Computer Science at the University of Colorado Boulder in 2020 and has published over 15 peer-reviewed conference papers in leading HCI and Robotics venues such as CHI, UIST, IROS, DIS, and ASSETS, earning several notable honors, including an honorable mention for a paper at UIST. Prior to his current position, Ryo held research internships at institutions including Stanford University, UC Berkeley, the University of Tokyo, and Adobe Research. His areas of interest encompass Tangible User Interfaces, Shape-changing User Interfaces, Haptic Interfaces, and Human-Robot Interaction, as well as Augmented, Virtual, and Mixed Reality technologies. Ryo is dedicated to advancing the field through innovative research and has received multiple awards for his work in this domain.
