Biography

Saad Saleh is a Professor of Practice at the University of Texas at Austin in the Chandra Family Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He obtained his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1991, with a focus on feedback control theory. After completing his doctoral studies, he joined Shell Development Company in Houston and served as a research engineer, advancing in roles that focused on applications of advanced digital signal processing systems theory in seismic data processing and interpretation. His research interests encompass statistical pattern recognition, data compression, and noise attenuation, as well as innovative methods in seismic imaging. Dr. Saleh has held leadership roles such as leading the New Detection Methods R&D team at Shell International E&P, where he developed new geophysical techniques and methods in controlled-source electromagnetics. Later, as General Manager of Shell’s Integrated Geoscience R&D program, he worked with a multidisciplinary team to create new exploration technologies using computational science and machine learning. After retirement from Shell, he joined Rice University and later the Bureau of Economic Geology at the University of Texas to consult on subsurface imaging technologies for renewable energy. His current research focuses on control theory, multi-agent dynamic networks, and machine learning.
