Dr. Sabah Hussain

Biography

Sabah N Hussain is a James McGill Professor in the Department of Medicine at McGill University, where he has been appointed since July 1st, 2005. He also serves as a Medical Director of the Pulmonary Function Laboratories since July 1999 and has been the Research Director at Meakins-Christie Labs MUHC since July 1991. He joined the Department of Pathology as an Associate Member in 2017. His current research focuses on the molecular signaling pathways involved in angiogenesis and the action mechanisms of angiopoietins and Tie-2 receptors. He is investigating the transcription factor networks downstream of Tie-2 receptors in endothelial cells and cultured skeletal muscle satellite cells. His lab's work also includes exploring the biological functions of angiopoietin-1 and angiopoietin-2 in regulating cytokine cascades in tissue injury models such as inflammation, severe sepsis, and acute lung injury. Additionally, Sabah's research explores skeletal muscle regeneration and the effectiveness of gene therapy for delivering angiopoietins in skeletal muscle injury and regeneration models. He is particularly focused on the molecular mechanisms involved in skeletal muscle atrophy, including the regulation of autophagy and proteosomal pathways.
