Biography

K. Sabeel Rahman is a Professor of Law at Cornell Law School. His academic research focuses on issues of democracy, governance, economic power, political economy paradigms, and racial equity. He works extensively with think tanks, advocacy organizations, and foundations to develop novel approaches addressing issues in practice. From 2021 to 2023, he served in the Biden-Harris Administration leading the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA), where he oversaw the policy review and approval of significant federal regulations and played a key role in the Administration’s efforts to promote equity, data policy, and reforming regulatory analysis. Prior to that, from 2018 to 2021, he was involved with Demos, a national racial justice think tank and advocacy organization, where he played a significant role in combatting voter suppression and developing major policy ideas regarding climate justice and student debt relief. Rahman co-founded the Law and Political Economy Project and is the author of 'Democracy Against Domination' (Oxford University Press, 2017) and 'Civic Power' (with Hollie Russon Gillman, Cambridge University Press, 2019). His popular writings have been featured in venues such as The Atlantic, New Republic, Boston Review, Dissent, and The Washington Post.
