Professor Sabine Cordes specializes in Molecular Genetics at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute. Her research focuses on the molecular mechanisms that govern animal behavior and their disruption in human mood disorders. The lab employs mouse molecular genetics as a starting point for analyses that include primary cell culture, molecular biology, cell biology, and behavioral studies. Professor Cordes collaborates with talented colleagues and currently investigates several key areas such as the neuroimmune axis in neurodevelopmental disorders and the role of Tub domain proteins in neurobiology, particularly as they relate to mood disorders. Her recent work also includes microexon splicing and its implications in autism spectrum disorder, in collaboration with Dr. Ben Blencowe’s lab to uncover postnatal roles of microexon splicing programs. Through her research, she aims to understand the complex interactions between genes and behavior, particularly in the context of rare diseases and translation regulation processes.
