Biography

Sabine Kastner is a professor affiliated with the Princeton Neuroscience Institute. Her research focuses on understanding how large-scale networks operate in cognition, particularly through the visual attention network. Her work is motivated by questions regarding large-scale networks and the efficient communication of neural codes used by network nodes to drive behavior. She employs primate brain models, including human and macaque monkeys, utilizing integrated methods such as invasive electrophysiology and brain imaging modalities like functional magnetic resonance imaging and diffusion tensor imaging. Her studies aim to compare tasks that elicit common behaviors in primate brain models. Additionally, her lab explores the neural basis of attentional selection in natural scenes, the functional parcellation of the human parietal cortex, the topographic organization of the human visual system, and the neural basis of object perception, including studies with patients suffering from object agnosia and amnesia.
