Biography

Sabine Kropp is a Professor of Political Science and has led the research area "Political System of the Federal Republic of Germany" at the Otto Suhr Institute of the Free University of Berlin since 2013. She previously held chairs in Political Science at the German University of Administrative Sciences (2008-2013) and at the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (2004-2008). Kropp has also received offers for chairs in Government Systems of the Federal Republic of Germany and Domestic Politics. Her research focuses on comparative federalism and multi-level politics, particularly within the context of the German political system and post-Soviet countries. One recurrent theme of her research is exploring how institutional configurations remain resilient and adaptable during crises and transformations, and how democratic systems can be rendered more robust. Her methodological approaches include extensive archival studies, expert interviews, and qualitative and quantitative text analytics. Kropp studied political science, East European studies, and Slavic studies at Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg and the Pushkin Institute in Moscow.
