Dr. Sabine Nessel

Biography

Sabine Nessel is a Professor of Film Studies at Freie Universität Berlin, where she leads the Seminar für Filmwissenschaft. Her academic work focuses on a range of interests including environmental humanities and media studies, feminist theory, and film aesthetics. She has held numerous leadership positions within the university, including serving as the Deputy Managing Director of the Institute for Theatre Studies. Nessel's extensive research spans various disciplines, bridging film theory and the study of cultural practices related to representation and difference in cinematic media. She has a rich background in academic leadership, serving as a principal investigator for several DFG-funded research projects that address the normative aspects of film and media. Throughout her career, she has been involved in numerous interdisciplinary collaborations, contributing significantly to film studies both nationally and internationally. Nessel's contributions have been recognized through her appointment in various advisory boards and as a member of scholarly associations.
