Dr. Sabino Zani

Biography

Sabino Zani is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at Duke University and in the Thomas Lord Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science. He holds an M.D. from Albany Medical College, obtained in 2003. His research interests encompass advancements in surgical technologies, particularly leveraging machine learning in laparoscopic robotic surgical training. Zani has been involved in significant grants, including those awarded by the National Science Foundation for the NRT-FW-HTF program, aimed at enhancing surgical technologies from 2021 to 2026. He also participated in multiple studies focusing on the development of machine learning platforms for surgical training and the pharmacokinetics related to cancer treatment. His past appointments include serving as an Assistant Professor in both Surgery and Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science. Zani's work engages interdisciplinary approaches integrating engineering technologies with medical practices, contributing to innovations in surgical procedures and education.
