Sabrina Higgins is an associate professor in the Department of Global Humanities at Simon Fraser University. Her research interests lie at the intersection of Late Antique Studies, Archaeology, Religious Studies, Art History, Papyrology, and Gender Studies. She is a field archaeologist and art historian whose work extensively engages with material culture, focusing particularly on Marian studies. Dr. Higgins aims to understand the development and spread of the early cult of the Virgin Mary through material culture. She also investigates how space and art interact within Late-Antique Christianity, particularly in relation to socially marginalized populations exerting agency through art. A founding member of the Digital Mary Project, she promotes public scholarship by contributing to open-access resources that teach about the ancient world, including the initiative Peopling Past. Her multidisciplinary approach informs both her teaching and her research.
