Biography

Sabrina Higgins is an Associate Professor in the Department of Archaeology at Simon Fraser University. She is a field archaeologist and art historian with a cross-appointment at the SNF Centre for Hellenic Studies. Her research is multidisciplinary, combining Late Antique Studies, Archaeology, Religious Studies, Art History, Papyrology, and Gender Studies. Currently, her work focuses on Marian Studies, particularly the use of material culture in understanding the development and spread of the early cult of the Virgin Mary. Her broader research interests include exploring how art and space interact with Late-Antique Christianity and how art is utilized by socially marginalized populations to exert agency.
