Generate a tailored SOP for Dr. Sacha Lapins. Improve your application with a focused, well-structured draft.
Sacha Lapins is a Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Fellow in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Oxford. His research integrates seismology and volcanology with machine learning to understand the movement of fluids and magma in volcanoes. By combining deep learning techniques with signal processing and next-generation seismic instrumentation, including fibre-optic Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) and dense nodal networks, Sacha seeks to transform volcano monitoring and enhance imaging of magmatic systems. His projects span Central America and the UK, where he develops and applies methods to advance eruption forecasting and support geothermal carbon-storage monitoring, as well as the sustainable recovery of geothermal and mineral resources from volcanic fluids. Sacha’s primary research interests lie in volcano seismology, magmatic processes, and the applications of machine learning in seismic signal processing analysis.
