Dr. Sadiah Qureshi

Biography

Professor Sadiah Qureshi is a writer and historian who took the Chair in Modern British History at the University of Manchester in 2023. She studied at the University of Cambridge for her undergraduate, postgraduate, and postdoctoral studies, specializing in the history of science. Her research interests encompass racialized knowledge, modern political issues, and the legacies of empire, exploring how these ideas shape contemporary discussions on race and conservation. Qureshi's latest book, 'Vanished: Unnatural History of Extinction,' published by Allen Lane, seeks to understand how the concept of extinction has influenced our perception of life on Earth in the Anthropocene. As a prominent voice, she has contributed to several notable publications and has been featured in various podcasts and documentaries discussing her work. Her teaching includes a wide range of topics related to modern history, especially focusing on Black and South Asian histories in Britain. Qureshi is also engaged in public education and outreach, having developed resources for schools and contributed significantly to discussions around decolonization and racial inequalities in higher education.
