Biography

Sadie Deschenes joined the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta as an Assistant Professor in January 2024. Her doctoral research focused on developing, implementing, and evaluating evidence-and-ethics-informed moral distress interventions for healthcare professionals in the intensive care unit (ICU). Deschenes' research interests include ethics, moral distress, intervention development, healthcare professional retention, and improving Indigenous Peoples' health in critical care settings. She has clinical experience as a registered nurse in pediatric critical care and outpatient neurology. Deschenes is involved in the development and implementation of moral distress interventions for ICU healthcare professionals, with a focus on Indigenous health and healthcare professional retention. She is currently accepting MN Honors students and teaches various courses related to healthcare ethics and philosophical inquiries in nursing practice.
