Saeed Shoaie is a Reader and group leader in the Systems & Synthetic Biology division at King's College London. He leads the Quantitative Systems Biology Lab in the Centre for Host-Microbiome Interactions (CHMI). In 2018, he became a BBSRC EPSRC UKRI fellow and also serves as the Deputy Lead for the MSc in Microbiome. Saeed received his MSc and PhD degrees in Innovative Sustainable Chemical Engineering and Systems Synthetic Biology from Professor Jens Nielsen's Systems Biology lab at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden. He has previously worked as a researcher at Novo Nordisk A/S and the Steno Diabetic Center in Denmark, as well as the Science Life Laboratory in Sweden. His research focuses on analyzing multi-omics data from cohort studies to identify biomarkers and develop novel treatment strategies for human diseases. Saeed's interests include generating genome-scale metabolic models of the host microbiome, which are used to analyze omics data for elucidating host-microbiome interactions in human disorders. He has developed mathematical platforms to predict patient responses to modified diets based on individual gut microbiome composition. His studies have been published in Cell Metabolism and over 100 journals worldwide, and his research group is currently improving personalized diet regimes based on gut microbiome composition to support the early prevention of metabolic disorders.
